Alexios (AD 1106 – 1142). co-emperor (r. 1122–1142). Eldest son of John II; predeceased his father. Called Alexios the Younger, he was crowned co-emperor at thirteen, marked out from boyhood as heir of the Komnenian line. He was born a twin — his sister Maria shared his birth — and was elder brother to the future emperor Manuel I. The crown he wore beside his father was never exchanged for one of his own.
