Kinlight is a reading room, not a service. The whole archive runs in your browser; there is nothing to sign up for, and no account or personal detail is ever asked of you.
What we don’t do
There are no accounts, no forms and nothing to submit. We do not ask for, collect or store your name, email or any personal detail, and we never sell or share data about you.
Audience measurement
We use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and how visitors find the archive — the kind of counting that tells us whether the work is reaching anyone.
It runs in a cookieless mode: no cookies are set and no identifier is stored on your device. Google receives ordinary request information, including your IP address (used only to estimate a coarse location, then discarded), and reports it back to us as aggregate totals — never as anything that singles you out.
On your device only
Your browser’s local storage remembers a few small reading preferences — which books you have opened and whether the notice card is dismissed. That record never leaves your device, and you can clear it at any time through your browser’s site-data settings.
Third parties
The pages are hosted on GitHub Pages, so GitHub may log requests (such as IP addresses) under the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Portraits load directly from Wikimedia Commons: when a card comes into view, your browser requests the image from wikimedia.org, under the Wikimedia Foundation’s privacy policy.
Audience measurement is provided by Google, under Google’s Privacy Policy.
Living people
Records of living people are redacted by design: initials, a birth decade and their place in the family — nothing more is published.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
