Philibert II, Duke of Savoy

Philibert (1480 – 1504). Duke of Savoy (r. 1497–1504). Married Margaret in 1501. 'the Handsome'; second husband of Margaret of Austria. He came to the ducal throne as a teenager after his father's brief reign, and with his young first wife, Yolande Louise of Savoy, took up the titular crowns of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia — titles he kept even after her early death. His second marriage, to Margaret of Austria, daughter of Maximilian I and Mary of Burgundy, allied Savoy with the Habsburgs. The duchy sat uneasily between French possessions once Louis XII conquered neighbouring Milan. He died at twenty-four, childless, leaving Savoy to his half-brother Charles III.
