Cadmus
Generation VII · Founder of Thebes
A Phoenician prince who left home in search of his stolen sister Europa, Cadmus followed a guiding cow to Boeotia and there founded Thebes. After slaying the war-god's dragon at the spring, he sowed its teeth in the earth on Athena's counsel, and from the furrows sprang armed men — the Spartoi, ancestors of the Theban nobility. He is also remembered as the one who carried letters from Phoenicia into Greece.
