A Thessalian princess, daughter of King Phlegyas, whom Apollo loved and left with child. When word came — carried, the poets say, by a raven whose feathers the furious god scorched from white to black — that she had taken a mortal lover, she was slain; but Apollo snatched their unborn son Asclepius from the pyre, and the boy was raised by the wise centaur Chiron.
