Son of Zeus and Leto, Apollo was born on the small floating island of Delos, the one place brave enough to shelter his mother from Hera's anger, and the island was anchored fast and made holy ever after. God of prophecy, music, healing, and the far-shooting bow, he slew the serpent Python at Delphi and set his oracle there, where his priestess spoke riddles that steered kingdoms.
