Youngest-named of the nine Muses born to Zeus and Mnemosyne, Urania is 'the heavenly one,' Muse of astronomy, who lifts the arts from the banquet hall to the night sky. She holds a celestial globe and a pointing rod, reading the stars as her sisters read verse, and those who studied the heavens — from ancient stargazers to Renaissance observatories — claimed her as their own.
