Third and most final of the Moirai, Atropos — 'she who cannot be turned' — waits with her shears for the moment Lachesis's measure runs out, and cuts. Said to be the smallest of the sisters and yet the most inexorable, she is the reason no plea, offering, or clever bargain has ever added a single day to an allotted life. Hesiod elsewhere also names the Moirai daughters of Nyx alone — this archive follows his Zeus-and-Themis account.
