The starry vault of heaven made a person, first ruler of the cosmos and both son and consort of the Earth. He feared his own children and pressed them back into Gaia's depths, until his youngest son Cronus lay in ambush with an adamantine sickle, unmanned him, and cast his rule down with the severed flesh. His fall opened the age of the Titans and set the pattern of sons overthrowing fathers that haunts the whole dynasty. Borne by Gaia alone, with no father, so that heaven might cover her on every side.
