Pontus
Generation III · The Sea
Pontus is the barren salt sea in person, whom Gaia produced entirely on her own before any marriage existed. He went on to head the old marine dynasty: with Gaia he fathered truthful Nereus, the Old Man of the Sea, along with Thaumas, Phorcys, Ceto, and Eurybia. Hesiod is explicit that Gaia bore Pontus alone, without a father or any union of love.
