Generation IV · The bright glare of lightning, the divine forge
'The Bright One,' third of the Hesiodic Cyclopes, whose name names the white brilliance that lightning leaves on the eye. With Brontes and Steropes he was jailed by two generations of fearful fathers before Zeus struck off his chains and set him to work on the thunderbolt. Other poets knew him by the smith-names Acmonides or Pyracmon, 'fire-anvil.'
