Iapetus
Generation IV · Mortal lifespan, the western pillar
Titan of the west and, in later readings, of the piercing spear of mortality, the allotted span of human life. By the Oceanid Clymene he fathered a famous and fateful brood: Atlas who carries the sky, defiant Prometheus, scatterbrained Epimetheus, and violent Menoetius. Homer pictures him sitting beside Cronus in the sunless dark of Tartarus after the Titans' defeat.
