Epimetheus — afterthought — is the amiable, unlucky mirror of his brother Prometheus, always understanding too late. Warned never to accept a gift from Zeus, he welcomed the lovely Pandora into his house anyway, and with her came the jar whose opening loosed hardship upon the world.
