Portrait of Prometheus

Prometheus, whose name means forethought, is the cunning Titan who championed humankind — tricking Zeus over the sacrificial portions and smuggling fire down from heaven in a fennel stalk. For that theft Zeus chained him to a crag where an eagle fed daily on his ever-renewing liver, until Heracles at last shot the bird and set him free.
