Generation IV · Overwhelming strength, the hundred hands
One of the three Hundred-Handers, alongside his brothers Cottus and Gyges: giants with fifty heads and a hundred arms apiece, so dreadful that Uranus buried them at birth. Freed by Zeus, they hurled three hundred rocks at a volley and broke the Titans, then stood guard over the defeated in Tartarus. Homer adds that when the other Olympians plotted to bind Zeus, Thetis summoned Briareus, whom men call Aegaeon, to sit beside the throne, and the conspirators lost their nerve.
