Rhea
Generation IV · Motherhood, mother of the gods · The Titans
The great mother of the Olympian generation, wife to her brother Cronus and bearer of Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. Grieving as each child vanished down her husband's throat, she tricked him with a swaddled stone and spirited the newborn Zeus away to a cave on Crete, where the clash of guardian spears drowned out his cries. Later ages merged her with the Anatolian mountain mother Cybele, drawn in a chariot by lions.
One of 53 people of The Titans in this archive. Kronos and his kin, who ruled until their own children threw them down.
Line of descent: Chaos → Gaia → Uranus → Rhea.
