One of the five children gulped down by Cronus and freed by Zeus's ruse, Hades fought beside his brothers against the Titans wearing the helm of darkness the Cyclopes forged for him. When the victors divided the world by lot, the sunless kingdom of the dead fell to him, and he ruled it soberly and without appeal, taking Persephone down into the dark to reign at his side.
