Eileithyia

Daughter of Zeus and Hera, Eileithyia is the goddess of childbirth, whose arrival eases labour and whose absence prolongs it — a power her mother did not scruple to use. Hera kept her from Leto for nine days on Delos, and detained her again at Alcmene's confinement so that Heracles' birth might be delayed, making the midwife of heaven a quiet instrument of a queen's grudges.
