Calliope

Chief of the nine Muses whom Mnemosyne bore to Zeus after nine nights together in Pieria, Calliope is the voice of epic song, the 'beautiful-voiced' one whom Hesiod ranked foremost of her sisters. She attends worthy kings and pours persuasion on their speech, and tradition made her the mother of Orpheus, the singer whose music could move stones and soften death itself.
