The Thracian bard whose music charmed beasts, bent trees to listen, and set stones themselves in motion; aboard the Argo his song outmatched even the Sirens. When his bride Eurydice died of a serpent's bite, he sang his way into Hades and won her release — on the one condition that he not look back before reaching the light. He looked, and lost her twice. Son of the Muse Calliope; his father is Oeagrus of Thrace, or in some tellings Apollo — neither is wired here.
