An Argive princess shut in a bronze chamber by her father Acrisius, who feared an oracle that her son would kill him. Zeus came to her as a shower of gold falling through the roof, and she bore Perseus; cast to sea with her infant in a wooden chest, she washed ashore on Seriphos and lived to see her son become the Gorgon-slayer.
