Portrait of Andronikos Doukas

Andronikos (AD 1057 – 1077). co-emperor (r. 1068–1078). Son of Constantine X. The third of Constantine X's sons, he stood apart from his brothers in one respect: his father never raised him to junior emperor. That dignity came only from Romanos IV Diogenes, the outsider who had married into the family. The sources otherwise leave him in the shadows — he played no real part in the affairs of state, a crowned figure at the edge of the dynasty rather than an actor within it.

One of 13 people of Doukas (1006–1303) in this archive. A great civil house that took the throne between the Macedonians and the Komnenoi.
