Konstantios Doukas

Konstantios (AD 1060 – 1081). co-emperor (r. 1060–1078). Son of Constantine X; killed in battle 1081. Elevated to junior emperor at his birth, he kept the rank through three reigns — his father's, Romanos IV's and his brother Michael VII's — without ever wielding power of his own. When Michael abdicated, the boy was handed over to the usurper Nikephoros III and consigned to a monastery. Alexios I Komnenos drew him back into the world and made him a general, and it was in that service he fell at Dyrrhachium. The sources sometimes blur him with his nephew Constantine Doukas, a confusion that has trailed him ever since.
