Daughter of the sea god Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra, Iris is the rainbow made person — the bright, arcing road between heaven and earth. She runs the gods' errands on golden wings, serving Hera above all, and when an oath must bind the immortals it is Iris who fetches the dread water of the Styx in her pitcher.
