Leopold (1351 – 1386). Duke of Austria (r. 1365–1386). Married Viridis in 1365. Founder of the Leopoldian line; killed at the Battle of Sempach. Known as “the Just,” he was born to a mother of fifty-one, Joanna of Pfirt, who died soon after his birth. On the death of his eldest brother Rudolf IV in 1365 he took up the government of the Habsburg dominions alongside his brother Albert III, and from 1379 ruled his own portion — the Inner Austrian duchies of Carinthia, Styria and Carniola, together with Tyrol and Further Austria.
