Otto (1301 – 1339). Duke of Austria (r. 1330–1339). Married Elizabeth in 1325. Married Anne in 1335. 'the Merry'; co-Duke of Austria with Albert II. His marriage sealed a peace: after his brother Frederick the Fair was beaten at Mühldorf in 1322 and the Habsburg bid for the German throne collapsed, Otto’s match with Elizabeth of Wittelsbach, a Bavarian duke’s daughter, marked the reconciliation of the rival houses. A founder as well as a ruler, he established Neuberg Abbey in Styria in 1327 to mark the birth of his first son Frederick, and endowed the Chapel of Saint George in the Augustinian Church. From 1335 he held the Duchy of Carinthia as well.
