Portrait of Rudolf I of Bohemia

Rudolf (1281 – 1307). Duke of Austria (r. 1298–1307). Married Blanche in 1300. Married Elizabeth Richeza in 1306. Eldest son of Albert I; also King of Bohemia and Poland 1306–1307. Vested with the Austrian hereditary lands at sixteen after his father's election as German king, he governed as regent for his younger brothers Frederick and Leopold under the Treaty of Rheinfelden. His French marriage, arranged as royal diplomacy, ended in grief — both children of the union died in infancy, and Blanche herself was gone by 1305. He rode with his father on the 1304 expedition against Wenceslaus II of Bohemia, the kingdom whose crown he himself would briefly wear; his Polish kingship remained titular.
