Zephyrus is the mild west wind, the breeze of spring that coaxes flowers open and carries ships gently home. Yet even the gentlest wind can turn jealous: rivalrous over the youth Hyacinthus, he blew Apollo's discus off course to strike the boy, from whose blood the hyacinth flower sprang.
