Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, the youngest niece of King Charles III, is the first child and only daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and Sophie. She was born at Frimley Park Hospital in Surrey on 8 November 2003, during the reign of her grandmother Elizabeth II, while her father was away on an official visit to Mauritius. Her christening took place in April 2004 in Windsor Castle’s private chapel, and she was the last royal child to wear the original christening gown. Her brother James was born in 2007.
She went to St George’s School at Windsor Castle and then St Mary’s School, Ascot, and in 2022 began studying English at the University of St Andrews, later adding international relations. While there she joined the Army Reserve’s university officers’ training corps. She graduated in July 2026.
In 2011 she was one of the bridesmaids when Prince William married Catherine Middleton. After her grandmother died in September 2022, she stood vigil for fifteen minutes beside the Queen’s coffin in Westminster Hall with her brother and six cousins, and she attended the coronation of Charles III in May 2023. Taught to ride young, she took up carriage driving, the sport her grandfather Prince Philip had done so much to popularise in Britain.
