Generation V · The oracle at Dodona
A gentle oracular goddess whose name is simply the feminine of Zeus, honoured beside him at the ancient rustling-oak oracle of Dodona. In the Iliad she is the mother of Aphrodite, cradling her wounded daughter on Olympus and soothing her with tales of other gods who have suffered at mortal hands. Hesiod, by contrast, lists her quietly among the daughters of Oceanus and Tethys. An Oceanid in Hesiod's catalogue; Apollodorus instead counts her among the Titans. In Homer she is the mother of Aphrodite by Zeus — noted here but not wired, since this tree follows Hesiod's foam-born account.
