Oceanid of cunning wisdom and deep counsel, the cleverest of the three thousand daughters of Oceanus and Tethys. It was her craft, in one tradition, that brewed the draught which made Cronus vomit up his swallowed children, and she became Zeus's first wife. Warned that her second child would outstrip him, Zeus swallowed her whole while she was pregnant, and their daughter Athena later burst fully armed from his head, wisdom lodged forever inside the king of the gods.
