Generation III · The bright upper air
Aether is the luminous upper air of the heavens, purer and brighter than the misty air that mortals breathe below. Hesiod makes him the son of Erebus and Nyx — radiance sprung, fittingly, straight out of darkness and night — and brother to Hemera the Day.
