Portrait of Philotes

Philotes personifies affection in all its warmth — friendship, tenderness, and the closeness of lovers. She is a strangely gentle presence in Hesiod's roll of Night's fatherless children, proof that the dark that bore Deceit and Old Age also held sweetness. Hesiod is explicit that Nyx bore this child alone, without any father.
