Nyx is Night herself, born of Chaos and so formidable that in Homer even Zeus is wary of crossing her. Besides her bright children with Erebus, she bore all alone — with no father at all — a shadowy brood of personifications, from Doom and Death to Sleep, Deceit, and Strife, dwelling at the far edge of the world.
