Portrait of Eris

Eris is strife and discord, a fatherless daughter of Nyx who in Hesiod goes on to bear a grim household of her own — Toil, Famine, Battles, Quarrels, and Lies among them. She is forever remembered for rolling a golden apple marked 'for the fairest' among the goddesses at a wedding she wasn't invited to, lighting the long fuse of the Trojan War. Hesiod is explicit that Nyx bore this child alone, without any father.
