Momus

Generation III · Blame and mockery

Portrait of Momus

Momus is fault-finding given a voice: the personification of blame, satire, and mockery, born to Nyx with no father. Fable made him the critic even of divine handiwork — carping at the gods' creations until, the story goes, his relentless ridicule got him thrown off Olympus. Hesiod is explicit that Nyx bore this child alone, without any father.
